Maisie Weissman is an Emmy-nominated video editor and producer with more than 15 years of experience across film and television. She specializes in teasing out compelling stories from verité footage, shaping them with music and sound design, and creating narratives that are surprising, often humorous, and above all entertaining.
She began her career working in sound and music for films. As assistant to music supervisor Alex Steyermark, Maisie assisted with music research, licensing and score recording on films such as Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm and Victor Nunez’s Ulee’s Gold.
From there, she quickly progressed to full-fledged music editor on films such as The Boxer (dir. Jim Sheridan) and Jawbreaker (dir. Darren Stein). She went on to work as Spike Lee’s music editor over several years, from Get on the Bus to Summer of Sam, creating temp scores, preparing for and coordinating orchestral score recordings, and prepping for mixes. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her work on Spike Lee’s 4 Little Girls.
Maisie then shifted to the picture department in film (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and television (Trauma: Life in the E.R.). She began working as an editor and “preditor” (producer/editor) who specializes in documentary and reality television. Much of this work was done for New York City-based production company Departure Films, where she has worked as a frequent freelancer since the company’s inception in 2003.
Her work as editor has spanned genres, from travel (Rev Runs the World), cooking (Pure and Simple), and home improvement (The Vanilla Ice Project), to true crime and celebrity biography, and has appeared on many networks, including HGTV, Travel Channel, VH1, A&E, diy, TruTV, and MTV. She also has extensive experience creating promotional spots and working with graphics.
Maisie lives in upstate New York with her family. She works in New York City and around the Hudson Valley, as well as from home where she has a complete edit suite equipped with Media Composer, Premiere Pro and After Effects.
